ABOUT LITTLE LIGHT HOUSE
The mission of the Little Light House is to glorify God by improving the quality of life for children with special needs, their families, and their communities. We accomplish this mission by providing tuition-free educational and therapeutic services to children with special needs ages birth to six.
The LLH does not receive funding from government sources or the United Way.
While K & M Shillingford has a storied history of supporting our local community we always want to do more. We are proud to announce our first annual Fire and Ice Gala scheduled February 18th, 2017 at the Hyatt Regency Downtown. This inaugural event is aimed at promoting local non-profit organizations that directly help enrich our community. The 2017 Fire & Ice Gala will benefit the continued expansion at The Little Light House (LLH). LLH provides tuition-free educational and therapeutic services to children with special needs, age birth to six years. The Little Light House has grown exponentially since it first opened its doors in 1972; however they continue to face a challenge: the waiting list of more than one hundred fifty children who experience a delay of 2-3 years to receive the highly individualized services that LLH provides.
The recent expansion of their longstanding building has increased the enrollment from sixty-four children to a capacity of 96 children in the new building. Once the renovation of the older facility is completed they will be able to serve over one hundred thirty children, more than double what they have served the past 2 decades. And it is their hope the wait list will decrease significantly. The average cost for a single student is $ 27,500 per year, but LLH is a tuition-free school so the families pay nothing! In addition, no government or United Way funds are received. With the expansion comes an increased operating cost. The yearly revenue for the school will have to increase by 100%. With support from our community, we can be one step closer to building brighter tomorrows for children with special needs. Tulsa is truly a better city because of the services and programs provided by LLH.
